Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, a Certified Nursing Assistant performs various direct patient care activities in a long-term care environment. He/she assists patients in dressing or undressing, bathing, or eating, collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens or gathering vital signs, and aiding physicians and nursing staff members with procedures if needed. Nursing Assistants also Document patient interactions as needed. Requirements include a high school diploma and certification from an accredited nursing assistant program, a general understanding of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field, and the ability to perform a variety of tasks under general supervision.
